Welcome

“Discover the Charm” of Southern Pines!

Whether you’re seeking the ideal day trip, shopping in unique boutiques, a romantic getaway, an evening of exceptional art, mind boggling epicurean delights, equestrian pursuits, or a golf-lovers fantasy…Southern Pines is the ideal destination!  Located just an hour south of Raleigh, Southern Pines is a vibrant historic community that offers something for everyone.

The Southern Pines Train Station and Welcome Center is a great place to start any visit to Southern Pines.  You’ll find it in the middle of all the action.  Staffed by local volunteers who exhibit true Southern Hospitality, they’ll help you to plan your adventure in the pines.

Did someone say, “Shopping”?  Southern Pines is a shopper’s paradise!  Boutiques provide world class selection with the individual attention of a bygone era, and variety abounds.  This level of quality and personal attention is a point of pride in the community, and it’s a perennial favorite with residents and visitors alike.

If romance is on your agenda, date-night may start with a stroll hand in hand along the tree-lined streets.  Enjoy a libation, and linger over dinner in one of more than 65 restaurants.  From pizza to foie gras… pub food to traditional Southern Fare… the restaurants in Southern Pines are sure to please your palette. Decide to stay the night? Sleep in one of our historic inns in the downtown area or enjoy the modern accommodations of nationally known hotels in the outskirts of the area.

The Arts also play a lively role in this quaint community.  The Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities has flourished as a full-fledged cultural center since 1979, and it’s become a regional destination.  If you’re an art lover, you’ll also find galleries, studios, and a variety of eclectic performances at the historic Sunrise Theatre.

Special events throughout the year are an integral part of Southern Pine’s character.  The streets overflow with the thirty-year tradition of Springfest each April.  First Fridays mean live outdoor entertainment; the town park bustles on Saturday mornings at The Farmers Market; and the holidays ushers in a flurry of festivals, parades, and shopping extravaganzas.

This year, 2010 , also brings the inaugural Palustris Festival from March 25th through March 28th.  This much-antictipated celebration features more than 90 events that highlight the rich cultural and artistic traditions of the area.  Information may be obtained at www.palustrisfestival.com

Southern Pines is a nationally recognized equestrian hub, and each year the town hosts many equestrian events including The Stoneybrook Steeplechase, Combined Driving and Pony Club Competitions, Polocross, Hunter/Jumper and Dressage.

Probably best known for golf, the tradition continues.  Southern Pines has over 40 golf courses, all within a 15 mile radius.  The area has hosted two Men’s and two Women’s US Open Tournaments, and in 2014 both will return together.  From the true pro to the Saturday Morning Duffer, Southern Pines has the course for every golfer.

Whatever your pleasure, Southern Pines truly has something for everyone.  Visit soon to discover the charm for yourself!  Information about the town of Southern Pines, local businesses, and special events may be obtained at www.southernpines.biz.
